Week 3: Communities

I am back - I survived my preliminary exam (I hope) and am now back to the uncomfortable world of blogging. I see people actually commented on my previous blogs and will have to go take a look. When I say I was off the grid last week, it was real. I only engaged on social media a handful of times to wish my nieces a happy birthday, didn't check work email AT ALL (that was a first), and didn't check into my two classes. That was as most off the grid as I have been since I became active on the internet. What a whirlwind given the connection I have with the internet now and the addition of this class where I feel like I am evaluating everything we consume on the web.  With this weeks focus swirling around community, I remembered seeing at some point on Forbes, an article about social media and community - I found it and wanted to share it here.  I wonder what you all think about it...

Blog 3: Week 1

I did a family poll this week to see what was everyone's most used social media platform is. My immediate family is my partner and two dogs so the dogs didn't have an input ☺I also polled my parents and my sister. Below are the tallies of who uses what every day.  Facebook: 4 Instagram: 4 Twitter: 2 TikTok: 1 Some would argue this could be age related, however the ages ranged from 33 - 71, and the twitter users were in their 40's and 70's, Facebook was everyone, Instagram was everyone, and Tik Tok was in their 30's. Just thought it was interesting to get a perspective on what people are using. Ironically no one in my family blogs either, so that is not a common network or online community that is utilized. Something I did not think of but no one mentioned using it, was YouTube. I think about YouTube when I need to complete DIY for something around the house, or it opens automatically from a different site, but I don't view it as social media, when it absolutely

Blog 2: Week 1

In this episode of am-I-blogging-correctly, I am going to talk about a resource  - maybe it is a resource - that I found. Apparently there is a site called Social Media Today that has all the latest news on social media platforms. I was unaware that this existed, they also have social media handles to share the news directly to those platforms.  Link for reference to the site.   I was reading through todays news and immediately one of the top articles in the latest  section stood out to me: "41% of Americans Believe They Have What it Takes to Become a Social Media Influencer".   Before even reading it, what I know for sure is that the influencer  gig does not look easy. I started trying to making cooking videos on Tik Tok because so many of my buddies love the food I cook but wanted to see how I did it. Well, it is not easy to film the process, and if you do film the process, it is not easy to make it look good. Also, there are filters and songs and layouts to think about. T

Blog 1: Week 1

Hello everyone -  This is my first ever blog - kind of hard to believe, given I have been utilizing social media platforms and the internet since the early 2000's. When I was answering the discussion post this week I chose to talk about definitions, I always feel like definitions are a foundational part of every course. In keeping with traditional foundation theme for this too - I thought I would use my first blog to tell you the first time I started using social media platforms and if I still use them today and in what capacity.  1. Myspace : YOU GUYS, I think this was like 2004, but cannot even remember anymore and obviously do not still use it because it does not exist. 2. Facebook: I jumped on that bandwagon right when it was launched in 2006 because I was a senior in high school but already had my college email address so was able to create an account. Back in the day when you had to have a college email address because it was meant for that community. I still have my accoun
