Week 11: Ahhh Twitter

Image
All week I have been wanting to blog about how Elon Musk changed Twitter's iconic (I believe it was iconic) logo to the X. An X.. just an X. And then I thought, nah it is not that big of a deal, there are other things to talk about... and then low and behold he changed the X to a different X. Y'all... For those of you that might not remember or frankly don't care, the original logo was the bird. There were many variations of a bird, but we always knew it was a bird and to me it was synonymous with Twitter, given "tweeting".  I thought it would be fun to show the changes in the bird logo over the years and then to share the ridiculous new X logo and the already quick change to it.  I remember the bird changes because I believe I joined Twitter in 2009 and so was aware of the change from 2009 to 2010 which then inevitable became the logo and look of Twitter.  Now the X, I just don't understand. On Sunday, Elon Musk announced he was rebranding Twitter to X and ev

Week 11: Reflecting

I am becoming more and more reflective as the semester comes to a close. This is my third and final summer of taking courses for my PhD program and this fall I start dissertation writing. Immediate reflections, I wish I had taken this course earlier in my program. This course is part of my outside discipline courses that I got to choose. I wish I had taken this course earlier so I could have utilized more of the Web 2.0 tools we have learned about and so that I wouldn’t have senioritis. Yes, senioritis. The unfortunate aftermath of passing my preliminary exam and just ready to be done with coursework all together. I share this senioritis reflection with you because I believe it has inhibited me from being my best self in this course, my best learner and engager with classmates. I have engaged, I have participated, I have learned, but with a second week roadblock of an exam, a mental block pushing me towards completion, and impending soon-to-come deadlines for writing, I know I could

Week 11: Prezi

Image
As we near the end of the semester, I have been trying to reflect on some of the Web 2.0 tools I utilized a lot before this course and not recognizing they were classified as tools for online learning and community. One particular tool I used a lot throughout my master’s program was Prezi. I used Prezi because it was PowerPoint on steroids – interactive and different capabilities. I bring up Prezi because I do not use Prezi anymore for work or school, however I could see it being useful in throughout this course in some capacity. Does anyone still use Prezi, has anyone ever used Prezi? I just tried to login into Prezi to see old presentations and I have no idea which email I used for it, sigh. I believe it was my Colorado State email address but alas I will share with you why I believe it could still be a useful Web 2.0 tool especially for learning. Prezi allows you to invite team members to presentations, you can choose your current role – business, educator, student, or other –

Week 9: Social Media News

Since being enrolled in this course - which has been a pleasure so far - I have been more engaged with any news about social media, platforms, Web 2.0 as a whole, and what is offered for individuals. As you all also know if you read my blog at all and saw on my post from yesterday, I always like to share the links and stories.  This morning, when I woke for a wonderful rainy Friday, I was reading through the interwebs and stumbled upon an article posted by the Search Engine Journal  4 hours ago - so hot off the press - about  134 Social Media Statistics You Need To Know For 2023 .  Since we have been analyzing social media platforms and utilizing so many different tools throughout this course, I thought these statistics were fascinating, and could be interesting to some of us in the larger community.  Earlier in the semester, I once asked in one of my blog posts what was the most used or popular social media site amongst my classmates - mine was TikTok and I think other individuals wer

Week 9: AI

I know that the discussion of AI has come up a lot, not only in this class, but in society right now. Currently, I am in a place where I am not engaging with any AI platforms or influences because in my current job we are actively making sure students aren't using AI software and instruments to assist them with completing outcomes, etc.  What is interesting to me though is the presence of AI in social media and not just from a visual content side. If you all read my blogs at all, you know that I usually incorporate some article for additional reading that I have found and thought it was interesting to the topic. I found an article published in March through Forbes by an author who is the founder and CEO of a company that incorporates artificial intelligence and machine learning. The article is titled How AI Transforms Social Media .    It really takes a deeper look into the incorporation of AI in the community, which assists me with understanding the broadness and not be stuck thin

Week 9: Threads

Image
Welcome back from respite week - look at us, are we refreshed?! I for one, did little to no engagement online at all last week which was beautiful. But low and behold, we got introduced to another social media platform, Zuckerberg just can't stop, huh.  Insert the new platform, Threads. Full transparency, I have not downloaded it yet. I love Instagram and use it for personal use a lot but I am not sure I am ready to connect it to Threads. From what I have read, it is the text-based conversation app for Instagram. I visualize that as being Zuckerberg's form of Twitter, which is probably why Elon Musk wanted to meet him for a cage match. Here nor there, I have been seeing a ton of articles regarding the platform so wanted to share those with you here:  Why the Early Success of Threads May Crash Into Reality Twitter traffic is ‘tanking’ as Meta’s Threads hits 100 million users Threads isn't just growing fast—its users are also more engaged than on Twitter I am also curious if
